Overview
There may be cases where SuperOrbital does not yet have a direct integration with a media platform, CRM, MTA tool, or another data source your client uses. In these cases, you can use a Google Sheet as a custom data source. The Google Sheet can be:- Automatically updated through a third-party data integration tool, such as Funnel.io.
- Manually maintained by the Lunar team or the client.
Step 1: Set Up Your Google Sheet
Before connecting your Google Sheet, make sure the data is structured correctly for SuperOrbital. Your Google Sheet should:- Break data out by day.
- Include a Date column, with each date represented by a separate row.
- Include each metric you want to import as its own column.
- Include a clear column header for each metric or dimension.
Step 2: Connect Your Google Sheet
- From the left navigation menu, go to Administration.
- Select Google Sheets.
- Click Connect Source.
Share Your Google Sheet
Before SuperOrbital can access the data, the Google Sheet must be shared with the email address provided in the connection window.- Open your Google Sheet and click Share in the upper-right corner.
- Paste the provided email address into the Add people field.
- Set access to Viewer or higher.
- Click Send.
Step 3: Select Your Worksheet
Select the worksheet tab containing the data you want to import into SuperOrbital, then click Next.Note: Each Google Sheet data source can connect to one worksheet tab. If you need to import multiple tabs from the same Google Sheet, create a separate Google Sheet data source for each tab.
Step 4: Name Your Data Source
Enter a name for your new data source. This is the name that will appear under Data Sources when you’re creating Performance Reports, Custom Metrics, and other reporting assets, so choose a name that makes the source easy to identify. Click Connect & Detect Columns.Step 5: Configure Your Fields and Metrics
SuperOrbital will analyze the selected worksheet and automatically detect your columns and data types. Column headers from your Google Sheet will automatically be used as the names of your metrics and dimensions. Before publishing the data source, you can review and edit these names within SuperOrbital. SuperOrbital will also identify whether each column contains:- Dates
- Text/Dimensions
- Metrics
Step 6: Confirm Your Data Has Synced
Your new data source will now appear on the Google Sheets integration page. It may take a few minutes for SuperOrbital to complete the initial data sync. Once you see a green check mark and the status displays Synced, your Google Sheet data is ready to use throughout SuperOrbital.Keeping Your Google Sheet Data Up to Date
Google Sheet data is automatically synced with SuperOrbital once per day. If you add or update data in the Google Sheet and want those changes reflected sooner, you can manually trigger a sync:- Navigate to Administration > Google Sheets.
- Locate the Google Sheet data source you want to refresh.
- Click the Sync Now icon for that source.
