Overview
Calculated metrics can also be built using one or more custom filtered metrics. This allows you to create advanced KPIs using filtered subsets of your data across multiple platforms. Before creating a calculated metric using filtered metrics, you’ll first need to create each of the filtered metrics you plan to use in your formula. If you haven’t already done so, follow How to Create a Filtered Metric before continuing with this guide. This workflow is commonly used to create holistic blended KPIs, such as MER, nCAC, or other custom metrics that require excluding specific data from Shopify. For example, you may want to exclude Wholesale, TikTok Shop, or Point of Sale orders before using Shopify Revenue in your calculation. In these cases, you’ll first create the necessary filtered Shopify metrics, then reference those metrics when building your calculated metric. Step 1: Create a New Custom Metric- From the left navigation menu, go to Performance Reports.
- Expand the submenu and select Custom Metrics.
- Click + Create New Metric in the upper-right corner.
- Enter a Title and Description for your custom metric.
Step 2: Configure the Metric
- Select the appropriate Data Source Categories for your calculation.
- Commerce for Shopify metrics.
- Media for advertising platforms such as Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, and others.
- Select all categories that contain the data sources you’ll use in your calculation, including the data sources used to create your existing filtered metrics.
- Choose the specific Data Sources you want to include.
- Set the Entry Type to Formula.
- Select the appropriate Metric Type (Currency, Percentage, Number, etc.).
Step 3: Build Your Formula
Once you’ve configured your data sources, you’ll have access to all supported platform metrics as well as any custom filtered metrics you’ve previously created.- In the Formula Builder, locate and select the custom filtered metrics you want to include in your calculation.
- Combine your filtered metrics with additional platform metrics using the available mathematical operators (+, −, ×, ÷) and parentheses.
- Review your formula to confirm it returns the desired calculation.
- Click Save in the bottom-right corner to create your custom metric.
