# Custom Metrics Overview

## **Overview**

Custom metrics allow you to create metrics that go beyond the standard metrics available in SuperOrbital. Whether you need to filter existing platform data or create entirely new calculations, custom metrics give you the flexibility to report on the KPIs that matter most to your business.

Custom metrics generally fall into three categories:

* **Filtered Metrics** – Filter platform metrics using criteria such as campaign name, sales channel, product type, or other dimensions.
  * *Example:* Shopify Orders excluding Point of Sale.
* **Calculated Metrics** – Create new metrics by combining existing metrics from one or more data sources.
  * *Example:* Revenue per Session or blended ROAS across multiple advertising platforms.
* **Calculated Metrics Using Custom Filtered Metrics** – Build advanced KPIs by combining previously created custom filtered metrics with other metrics.
  * *Example:* nCAC or MER excluding Wholesale and Point of Sale orders.

## **Where You Can Use Custom Metrics**

Once created, custom metrics can be used throughout SuperOrbital, including:

* **Executive Summary Dashboards** – Add custom metrics as scorecards at the top of the dashboard.
* **Custom Performance Reports** – Include custom metrics in report tables alongside standard platform metrics.
* **Custom Dashboards** – Use custom metrics in scorecards, line charts, bar charts, and Performance Report widgets.
* **Outlier Notifications** – Monitor custom metrics and trigger alerts when they exceed or fall below expected thresholds.
* **Goals & Targets** – Track progress toward client-specific goals using your custom metrics.

## **How Custom Metrics Work**

Custom metrics are designed to be reusable across SuperOrbital. Once a custom metric is created, it becomes available anywhere custom metrics are supported, eliminating the need to recreate the same calculation or filter in multiple places.

If you update a custom metric, the changes are automatically reflected everywhere that metric is used, including dashboards, Performance Reports, outlier notifications, and goals. This ensures your reporting remains consistent across your entire workspace.
