# What Happens When an Outlier Is Detected?

## Overview

Once an active Outlier detects performance outside of your configured thresholds, SuperOrbital can notify your team in Slack and will automatically create a Task for review.

From there, you can quickly understand what triggered the Outlier, use **Houston** to help investigate the performance change, and determine whether any follow-up action is required.

## Review Your Slack Notification

If Slack notifications are enabled for the detected severity level, SuperOrbital will send an alert to the Slack targets configured in your Outlier Definition.

The notification provides a quick snapshot of the detected Outlier, including:

* **Severity Level**
* **Current Metric Value**
* **Baseline Value**

The **Current** value represents the metric performance during the **Observation Period** configured in your Outlier.

The **Baseline** represents the value SuperOrbital is comparing that performance against. Depending on your Outlier configuration, this will either be:

* Actual performance from your configured **Prior Period**, or
* The corresponding **Forecast/Goal Metric** value.

This allows you to quickly understand the size and severity of the performance change directly from Slack.

## Ask Houston About the Outlier

From the Slack notification, you can select **Ask Houston** to investigate the Outlier without leaving Slack.

Houston can provide a quick written analysis of what happened, surface potential drivers behind the performance change, and recommend possible next steps.

Use this as a starting point for investigating the Outlier before determining whether additional action is required.

You can also select **View in SuperOrbital** from the Slack notification to open the corresponding Task directly.

## Review the Outlier Task in SuperOrbital

Every detected Outlier automatically creates a Task in SuperOrbital.

You can access the Task directly from the Slack notification by clicking **View in SuperOrbital**, or find all detected Outliers from within SuperOrbital:

1. Navigate to **Agency Dashboard**.
2. Select **PMT Queue**, located below Mission Control.
3. Open the **Dispatch** tab.

The Dispatch tab displays the Outliers that have been detected and are waiting for review.

Click the **Task Title** to open the Outlier and review or edit its Task fields.

## Decide Whether Action Is Required

After reviewing the Outlier, determine whether it requires follow-up.

If the performance change does **not** require action, you can **Reject** the Task.

If follow-up is required, select **Approve & Add to PMT** to move the Task into your team's workflow.

Depending on the Outlier, follow-up actions could include:

* Informing the client about a significant performance change.
* Investigating unexpected increases or decreases in Spend or Revenue.
* Adjusting campaign budgets.
* Updating client targets or forecasts.
* Investigating the underlying cause of a performance anomaly.

This workflow ensures that detected Outliers aren't just notifications, but can be reviewed and converted into actionable work when necessary.
